In this post, I will discuss the Pipe Electrode and Rod Electrode’s types of earthing systems.

Pipe Electrode Types Earthing System:

When you are planning for pipe electrode types earthing system then your pipe electrode diameter should be minimum 38mm (1.5”) for the GI pipe and 100mm (4”) for the cast iron pipe. Now the minimum length of the pipe electrode should be 2.5m (9”). But the upper end is at a minimum depth of 1.25 meters from the ground level.

You have to confirm that the electrode is buried in a place where the soil always stays wet. Now come to the earth’s resistance. If you want to reduce the earth’s resistance then the layer of Charcoal, Calcium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Carbonate, and some Copper Sulphate can be used.

Now the pipe should drill with a dia of 12mm per 7.5cm of the length. The soil wet will maintained by pouring the water through the funnel at the very top of the pipe.

If you want to reduce earth resistance then you buried the number of electrodes. But you have to careful that the minimum distance between each electrode should not be less than twice the length of the electrode.

Rod Electrode Types Earthing System:

If you want to use GI or Steel rod then it should have the minimum dia of 16mm, minimum dia of 12.5mm for pure Copper rod and the length of the rod electrode should be 2.5m. If you want to reduce the earth’s resistance then just increase the length of the rod electrode.

The rod electrode for the earthing system should bury at 2.5-meter depth from the ground level. You can use it in hard soil or the stony type soil.
