Construction and Working Principle of Lamont Boiler

In this post, we will learn the Construction and Working Principle of Lamont Boiler. But who invented it? Ok, in the year of 1925, Lamont Boiler was invented by Walter Douglas La-Mont. Now let’s go and find out all about the Lamont Boiler.

First, What is Lamont Boiler?

Lamont Boiler is a water tube boiler that has an internally fired furnace, high pressure, forced water circulation system. As I say, a forced water circulation system and for this reason, an external pump is used to circulate the water system within the small diameter water tubes of this boiler.

Main Feature of Lamont Boiler:

The most important feature of Lamont Boiler is –

  1. An advance Steam Circulation and Water Circulation System is present.
  2. It has advance Tubing Processes.
  3. It has advance Heating Processes.

Construction and Working Principle of Lamont Boiler:

Lamont Boiler consists of a Feed pump and it supplies the feed water into the boiler. Generally, the feed pump circulates the water in the economizer of the boiler. Then the Economizer, which increases the temperature of the feed water. Water enters into steam separating drums from economizer. The steam separating drum which, separates the steam from the water.

A pressurized water circulation system is used in this boiler. A centrifugal pump use which driven by the turbine and it circulates the water from the steam separating drum to the small diameter tubes of the radiant superheater, convective superheater and again back to the steam separating drum. A Radiant evaporator responsible for evaporates the water steam mixtures with the help of radiation. The temperature of the fluid increase in this part of the oiler and most of the water converted into saturated steam. And after that, the saturated steam enters the steam separator drum.

An electric motor is used in an emergency situation for supplying water. The amount of steam present in the boiler drum, more than 10-time water supply into the boiler by water supping system to create steam. For this reason, the boiler tube remains safe from intense heat.

A pump used to supply feed water into the boiler with pressure which is more than the steam pressure inside the boiler drum. Pump feed water supply pressure can be 35 Pound/Square Inch (2.45 KG/Square Cm).

This type of boiler can generate 650000 Pound (294840 Kg) superheated steam in an hour. Lamont Boiler also can be a fire tube boiler. Generated Steam pressure from Lamont Boiler can 127.75 kg/Square Cm and temperature can be 533 degrees Celsius.

Advantage and Disadvantage of Lamont Boiler:

Now come to some advantage and disadvantage of Lamont Boiler. It can generate a high amount of steam and easy to start its operation. The construction design of the Lamont Boiler is very simple and easy to understand. This boiler can reassemble with the natural circulation boiler and it has a high heat transfer rate. After all this advantage it has one disadvantage. Bubble formation on the surface of the tube reduces the heat transfer rate. For this reason, you can get a little problem with the total amount of steam generation.
